Sentimental Anniversary

For our three year anniversary Edward and I went to the Cicada Club to celebrate. The Cicada Club is a throwback to the 1930s and 1940s. It's a good 'ol fashioned night club with live music and dancing. Every Sunday night a different band plays. The club features music from Big Band to swing. Another thing unique to the Cicada Club is that vintage or cocktail attire is required. How fun!! I tried to put together an outfit that was Kate Beckinsale-ish from Pearl Harbor. Edward pulled out a vintage brown pinstriped three-piece suit.

Ever since watching Ricky Ricardo sing in the Tropicana Club in the old episodes of I Love Lucy, I've always wanted to experience a vintage nightclub. Well, the Cicada Club lived up to our expectations. Once you walk into the building, its like stepping back into time. The club is located in the historic art deco Oviatt Building in Downtown Los Angeles.

Edward and I had a delicious dinner that consisted of butternut squash soup, spaghetti with shrimp and ahi tuna with arugula and radishes. We topped off our meal with a delightful berry cobbler. Yum-o. Dinner was a bit pricey, but very very good. It was definitely worth it.

After our tasty dinner we strolled around and took in the beauty of the historic building and rode in the antique 1920s elevator.

The dance floor was packed with skilled swing dancers. We were so intimidated. For a long while we just stood around and watched, too scared to even attempt a booty shake or two. A few drinks later, we decided to fake it to make it. That's okay you're supposed to "Dance like no one's watching", right? I'm sure our sorry attempt at swing dancing gave a few people a good chuckle.

The drinks that got us on the dance floor.

What an awesome place. We shall return! Here's the link to the Cicada Club. Check it out. http://clubcicada.com/main.asp

Happy Mother's Day

I hope everyone out there had an enjoyable Mother's Day, because our's was mighty fine indeed. We headed over to Easterly for some BBQ and Lakers game action. Edmund grilled up some bratwurst while the rest of us frolicked in the sun. For Nathan, frolicking in the sun = must wear sun screen.

He didn't mind though because he had a shiny brand new squirt bottle that was loaded and ready to go!! Hmmmmm...who will be his first victim??

Better watch out Lucy!! You're going down.

She didn't mind too much though because it was pretty roasty outside and the mist felt nice and refreshing.

Then Nathan realized Lucy was right. The mist WAS nice and refreshing!! So he decided to start spraying himself, as Noah peered over longing for the cool relief.

Lola was watching the shenanigans from across the picnic table. After rolling her eyes at the silly boys, she looked over at me to pose for a picture with her favorite child...Chasey-poo.

A short while later, on the other side of town, Mom paused for a pic with her favorite Grandpuppy. Say cheese Lucy.

Then, the Dog Whisperer Darren tamed all the wild puppies just in time to watch the spellbinding movie Hotel for Dogs. (Yes...we really watched that.)

The highlight of the day was my Raspberry Tiramisu, yum-o!!

I found this recipe in Giada's Family Dinners by Giada de Laurentiis. It was very delicious and quite easy to make. Thank you Giada for contributing to our Mother's Day celebration. May I one day absorb all your culinary know how, and look as classy and busty as you in your elegant Anthropologie attire. Cheers to all the mamas!!

The Frugal Traveler

Considering how the economy is right now, being a frugal traveler is the way to go. And since Edward and I are embarking on our European/African vaction in just 5 short weeks, I'm looking for all the money saving tips I can get. This article by the New York Times is very interesting and has a lot of helpful money saving travel tips. I totally agree with the author when he says a lot of your travel savings come from doing research research research. I found this out when I took me 4.5 hours just to book 1 hotel and train tickets out of Amsterdam, just because I was researching ALL our options (or I'm just extremely slow). I definitely want to look into the authors tip about a credit card that doesn't charge foreign currency fees. Those fees really added up when we were in Costa Rica last year. I hope this article give you some summer vaca travel tips.

Sleep Deprivation

Since this past February both Edward and I have not been able to get our well deserved sleep. This is because there is a certain someone in our house that likes to play the "I'm Crazy Game" at 7:00 AM!! This is how the "I'm Crazy Game" works:
